Alpha Group Updates......

Alpha 1- Making good progress and aiming to get to Rio Platanilla by the days end. Had a visit by Julian, Szeman and Jackie 2 days ago, spent the night looking at the stars and had a quick astrology lesson! Managed to tune in to Radio Raleigh on sunday, and quite sneakily, won the quiz!
Alpha 2- Had a few setbacks 2 days ago, but had a huge day trekking yesterday (20km, no less!) and now completely back on schedule....Go alpha 2! Their all doing well and there is a great atmosphere within the group. However, today they are recieving a mighty food drop.....heavy bags tomorrow!
Alpha 3- Currently on course, making their way through Babilla National Park and aiming to reach Rio Platanilla by the end of the day. They've been sleeping wherever they land, including a family's garage! They're eagerly awaiting the return of the 13th venturer...
Alpha 4- Sounds like they're having far too much fun in La Cangreja! Their camp consists of a jungle gym, chill out zone and a hammock area.....I'm suprised they have time for the trenches and trails they claim to be creating! Tonight is the 'welcome to the jungle' party, lets hope its not a late one!
Alpha 5- Appear to be having an amazing time out there. They arrived in time for a local festival, a celebration of William Walker in the civil war. This apparantly involved them being invaded by 500 children. Despite all this, they have still found time to see deers and white faced monkeys around their camp......again, how do they find time to fix those BBQs?!
Alpha 6- Have been swimming and enjoying their 'mini beach holiday'......oh, and clearing some coconuts. Lets hope the sun continues.
Alpha 9- Have started work on the walls of the commodore, and also managed to fit in some English teaching. They are also enjoying the hot weather that seems to never end down there. They were invited to see the National Guayamifootball tournament, and 4 venturers (Will, Tom, Adam and Oliver) managed to join in the teams. We wish them luck!

And now for some summaries of the last phase.........

Hey Dean (Alpha3)

Just a quick update on whats going on in UK.
For sure spring has arrived (at last!!). We had a dinner last Saturday with Natalie & Chris. We ate at a great restaurant not far away from our house. Sean left to Amsterdam with Joe and the team. I dropped him at Gatwick airport early Saturday morning (4.30). He spend 2 days in Amsterdam and left for Paris last Monday. He is living with Peter in Paris. He will return coming Friday.
I will go to the building site on Thursday with your mother and Ewok...
Anyway I hope all is good and you take care in this last part of your journey

Lots of love

Mom & Dad & Ewok & Natalie & Sean

Hi Grace, hope you are well. The letter you sent during the second phase arrived today and so filled in some more detail about the environmental project which sounded interesting!!
Speaking to you on Monday and Tuesday was great and we have updated N & Gd, Joe, Jess and Grant (who came home at the weekend). Everyone sends their love and best wishes. The weather here has been lovely and sunny but cold and frosty at night (very British to talk about the weather!!)
Dudley is fine and still slightly barking mad. We think it's attention seeking on his part.
We will be meeting up with Joe in Reading on Saturday, he has a match there and will be coming back home with us after the game.
I took a lot of photo's from the blog to N & G'ds at the weekend which they enjoyed.
Well I think that's all for now.
Take care, lots of love and best wishes.

Lieve Caat!!
We love you, Mies en Thys

Dearest Debz (Alpha 2) - the blog reports that your group has had some setbacks but that the good atmosphere of the group has overcome and that all is well. I'm glad. I do hope that laughs outweigh tears and that this will really be a trek to remember. Take care. We love you.
I'm treating myself to an expensive hair restyling - if it looks as good as yours did, I'll be happy. (It will of course be blonder!)
Love Mum

hi Dominique in alpha 2!
The last picture they've send is taken early morning before you left for the trek. You look fresh and awake and I notice your friends call you Dom.....This morning I did not look as fresh as you did when I got up at 3.45 to give Aukje and John a lift to the airport for their Mexicotrip.
We had a record dump of snow in Calgary of 31 cm last saturday and still snow on it's way.Wish winter would come to an end now,w've had more than enough of that white stuff now.
Mathieu did the Fat Tire Race on sunday. There was no way of getting of the hill properly with the snow knee high,non-groomed slope. It was crazy, biking in winterconditions and snowgear on.Although it was only a few runs and no price for M. he enjoyed it !
The blog said you had a few setbacks, were you lost, had severe thunderstorms or wild animalattacks ??? Anyway you've seemed to make up quickly and received a fooddrop today, well done.
Wonder where you have been hiking and spending the nights this last week.
Let us know how much colones we need to send to you.We will do it by Western Union, they have an office in Turrialba.Love from Calgary, mama

Darling Huhu, Hope you are doing well with your trekking. April is drawing near, and your comfy bed is waiting for you! But you know nothing will be as fun and special as your these 10 weeks. So enjoy to the maximum. Went to see Julia on her BADA Antique fair, she asked me to give you a big hug and lots of kisses. She was in tears when she heard about the Christ Church news. Ivy leagues will all announce their decisions at 17:00 Eastern Time, London 22:00 on 31 March. I don't know which one to check first, so nervous!!! Caroline took India to come to see Hugo this afternoon. We have had a lovely time. So looking forward to seeing you back home, my darling baobao. Hugs, Mum xxx
