Final project allocations...

I can't believe we're onto our final project allocations already. Everyone is really excited about heading out again, but I can't help also feeling a tiny bit sad as it means we're getting ever closer to the end! All the new groups are already getting on great as people are back with old Alpha group friends and also with new people too. We also have a three new projects this phase so I'll include a bit more detail about those below too.
First up, led again by Action Man Stu we have the mighty Corcovado trekkers of Alpha 1! L-R we've got PMs Stu and Kirsty, Wilder, Harriet, Isaura, Turlough, Jo Scott, Medic Natalie, Chris, Calum, Alexander, Cathelijne, Harm, Kayleigh and Bart van LDJ.

Next we have the final Macho Trekkers...
L-R Will, Hana, Debs, Josh, Freddie, Sophie F, Will Dyson, Jon, Oli Richardson, Vliss, PM Libby, Bella, Dion, PM Katie, Dom and PM Spilla.
The first of our new projects for phase three is Alpha 3 - the Coast to Coast trek. These guys will literally walk across an entire continent during their trek, starting on the carribean coast, trekking through jungle, then crossing the continental divide before descending towards the Pacific coast to finish - sounds amazing!

From L-R we've got PM Wendy, Adam McVie, Sophia, Marvin, PM Anna, Joost, Dean, Kuo-Jam, Holly, Tom Wright, Charlotte Milner, Jo Thompson, Sean, Tom Dickson, Fran and PM Rob.
The first of our environmentals, we've got Alpha 4 headed off for a final phase in La Cangreja. L-R... Vee, Ros, Charlotte Schroder, Steph, Juan-Carlos, PM Sarah, Andrew, PM Lizzy, Bruno, Emma Van Der Schans, Louise, Johannes amd PM Mike.
The second of our Environmental group is still Alpha 5, but we're headed off to a new project in Santa Rosa National Park. (I say 'we' because Laura and I are actually headed out on this phase as project managers which is very exciting!) During phase three, we will be making improvements to the campsite there, including building BBQs and benches and painting the toilet and shower blocks. Tourism is a vital source of income for the park so that research into the flora and fauna there, and how to protect it for future generations, can be carried out. It's also just down the road (well 12 kms down a dirt track) from some amazing deserted beaches so I'm sure we'll be taking a few trips down there too!
L-R... Amy (me!), Amy Tyler, PM/Photographer Laura, Nick, Mark, Floor, Isaac, Olivia A, Rose, Tish, Sophie Wilson, Johnney and PM James Burnham.
Our final environmental project is the new Alpha 6 who are headed to Playa El Rey. They'll be based on the beach helping to clear invasive cocnut saplings that are taking over the beach and encroaching on turtle nesting sites. They're all very excited to be spending 3 weeks at the beach, as you can see...

L-R ...Julie, Will Jaffray, Kyran, Lily, Caroline, Claire, Dirk, Polly, Catherine, PMs James Bader, Philly and Charlie, and Bart Overakker
And finally, Alpha 9, who are our only community project in this phase and will be heading to Conte Burika to finish off the Comedor...

L-R Will Pendered, Lucy, Rosie, Maarten, Grace, Katie T-T, PM Lisa, Viviana, PM Nick, Medic Anna-Louise, Tom Partridge, Sam, PM Kirstin, Oli Lawrence, Adam Young and Livvy.
This afternoon everyone is packing and all the venturers will no doubt be headed off into town for final emails and phone calls ! Tonight we'll be having a delicious dinner of Rosie and Sandra's yummy Yukka Pie, followed by a slideshow and videos from all the groups from phase two. Then it's hopefully early to bed before our final deployment at 6am tomorrow morning.

Whilst I'm away for the first half of this phase, our wonderful Fieldbase Medic Helena will be looking after the blog...
I know I thank you all the time for all the messages, but thanks again, they really do mean so much to everyone (hint hint mum!). Helena and the rest of the Fieldbase team will of course continue to give them out over the radio and bring them out on their visits during this last phase!

Wahey Pooch, I bet you're ecstatic about your allocation!

What a lovely photo of you all; that sky looks amazing...as do you Poochykins(a vast improvement on 'CCH'). Although if you lose any more weight I shall have to insist that you abandon your 13 years of vegetarianism and start eating your fellow Alpha 1 trekkers...rucksacks and all!

Good luck with the trek Alpha 1, and I hope all the wild and wonderful critters don't prove too elusive or camera shy. Pooch, I think Char and Skett would spontaneously combust with excitement if you actually managed to 'pap' a monkey or even better, a puma!

Nan sends her love, and I know you won't believe it but she has actually seen photos of you on the blog; her NBHF (new best holiday friend) showed her when she popped round for coffee. She was squealing down the phone with excitement when I spoke to her; you know how painful that can be on sensitive lil ears don't you?

Love you! x x x

p.s. I hope your parcel reaches you before your wonderful Raleigh experience ends!

Yay, Tom, the Coast to Coast trek! We are thrilled 'cos we know how much you had hoped to do this route.
Good luck to you and all Alpha 3. It's going to be a great adventure, so we hope the weather is kind to you, the company is great and that you have the time of your lives.
Great to talk to you the other day - you sound so close it's hard to believe you're so far away across the world. Lovely to share your enthusiasm and excitement - bring it home, too, we need it!
With love and admiration from all of us at home,

Ziet wel stoer uit met die giga krukken! Wees lief voor de schildpadjes als ze er zijn. Denk goed na wat je erna wil doen. Hi Sean (Alpha 3)
Woa!! How many kms? Still, it's in the family! So, just a short one wishing you and all your fellow trekkers all the best, and here's hoping the pesky blisters stay away from you all.
Listen, Kay rang from LA tonight. She really would love you and Liam to stay with them for the week you're there. She said you could have a key and just come and go as you please; they love having people to stay, and it certainly didn't seem as though they were expecting you to hang around with them. Would be dead comfortable, and save you a pocket load. She's going to e-mail you. I said you'd be arriving around 16/17th May? Venice Beach 5 miles, Huntington 45'ish. If you've got other plans, perhaps you could just stay for a few nights; whatever - just let her know. Motherly stuff: drink plenty water - sorry!!! Deb xxx

Hi Turlough in Alpha 1,
Goodness knows when you will receive this but hopefully by the time you do Mum will not only be celebrating her birthday and the first day of spring but also the first Grand Slam for Ireland since 1948. Meabh had a 5 hour delay at the airport this evening on her way to Cardiff for the big match. Aoife's gaelic team is through to the Ulster Schools Final after a big win today and Caitriona & Dad are watching Question of Sport right now. Orla is on her way to Donegal for a 21st birthday party. Snow Patrol are playing in the Odyssey for four nights - Aoife was promised a ticket but it fell through so she will just have to bring her own ketchup to Roscoff's where we are celebrating Mum's birthday. Porridge is not on the menu.
That's all our news - except that Prince William was asking about you again - oh and so was Sister Ursula.
Miss Fitzpatrick sends lots of kisses.

Hi Catielicious!!!!
GEFELICITEERD LIEFJE!!!!!

Hello Hana!

How's trekking going? I bet you've discovered a new passion... you'll be dragging us up mountain snowdon when you get back, and waking up every morning for a 10 k walk. Obviously this is totally true and realistic. But seriously, hope it's going well! You are going to be so FIT. In ever sense of the word... And tanned... as you already are in the photos... so jealous. Miss you lots, as you know. Saw Emily on Friday, she came back for the weekend cos her Granny's here, so that was AMAZING cos I've missed her too - though at least I can talk to her on the telephone. We just ate in good old tradition - Ben has decided to call me "gutling" after Barcelona, he has realised the full extent of the food obsession. So we are really the gutling gang. See you in 20 days! Hey Thomas (Dickson),
Hope you're well. Saw some good pics of you and the Tomtom pub quiz. All looks a good laugh. Just broken up for easter hols. Got my driving test on Wednesday. Skiing next weekend with the Walkers which should be a great week. Just about to go out on the quad before being dragged along to some Brahms concert tonight!!!! Mum and Dad want to tell you that they've entered you into the Scottish mouth organ championships on your return so you better have five pieces prepared for that! Hope the trek is not too arduous. Have a great time doing it.

Lieve Joost,

Dear Livvy (Alpha 9)
Hope you are enjoying your new group and new project. It sounds so interesting. Lovely to hear from you last week and hope you receive my parcel and Dad's letter by the time you get back to camp. We had a lovely family party for Katy on Sunday but she was pretty unwell with some type of fluey thing and was not well on her birthday. Hope she recovers for Thursday and the Reform Club dinner. Dad now has all the details of what you want to do next so we'll keep you posted. Not much else to report. It's the end of term at the end of this week. Will be in touch again soon and hope you are having fun. Lol Mum XXXXX
