Phase three finished!

It with both great excitement and a little bit of sadness that we are preparing for the final time for all the groups to come back to Fieldbase this afternoon. All the groups are safely on their buses now and we're expecing the first group back between midday and one. The terrace has been scrubbed and tables set out, Sandra and Rosie our cooks are back preparing another delicious dinner, and we're ready and waiting to collect all their photos, project summaries and of course, dirty laundry!

The next few days of wash up are going to be absolutely jam packed. When everyone arrives back today they've got to clean and scrub all their group kit so that it's gleaming, and then straight into phase three skits this evening!

Tomorrow there's more kit sorting to be done, and then a big review session in the afternoon when everyone goes back into their phase one alpha groups and looks back over the Raleigh experience and what it has meant to them - I expect this will be quite an emotional session for everyone involved as they look back over their incredible journeys.

Tomorrow night we've got a big UV party, complete with DJ and body paint!

On Thursday some of the venturers are going white water rafting along the mighty Pacuare river (All the Volunteer Managers went in January - it was a lot of fun!) or visiting the Guyabo National Monument, before heading back to Fieldbase and packing up all their kit. In the evening we have a black tie dinner, where the Project Managers will be serving dinner (complete with canapes!) followed by the Golden Mess Tin awards and then the final slideshow- and I don't doubt there'll be more than a few tears for this. And then finally, after many teary goodbyes, everyone will be packed on to their buses in the morning as they head off to the airport, or wherever they are headed to next.

When everyone is back safe and sound and we've managed to trawl our way through all their wonderful pictures, we'll get the final project photos and summaries up, along with news of how wash up is going.

But i'll leave you with this... It has been yet another incredible phase, and in fact an incredbile expedition. Once again I cannot believe how quickly the time has gone by, it really does seem like yesterday that I was standing in the airport waving a clipboard looking for all our tired/nervous/excited venturers. I know the whole team at Fieldbase are bursting with pride at how much the groups have acheived and how wonderful every person here has been over the three phases. You should be very very proud of each and every one of them!

Pura Vida!

Wow!!!! Can't believe 10 weeks have gone by since an emotional departure from the airport in UK! Am keeping this anonymous deliberately.

Thank you so so much, Raleigh, for looking after everyone, and ours, in particular. I know this experience will have been one of the most dramatic and influential experiences on ours. Elation, awe, frustration, anger, great self esteem, massive achievement, pride, true friendship, perspective. Such valuable lessons for life, travelling and exploration.

Thank you so much for the blog. It has been phenomenal, especially as we weren't expecting any, or much, communication; a real bonus, written with such warmth and enthusiasm.

Thank you for the medical attention which was received. It appeared not to leave any long lasting effects, judging by the genuinely happy looking photos and the completion of the 2nd and 3rd stages.

Happy partying and happy futures to all xxx

Dad and Rory miss you and talk about you a lot. Keep in touch after friday please. See you next month. love, hugs Mum xx

However you have and will still be having a wonderful experience. Please get in touch as soon as you can. Miss you so much. Another deiberately anonymous message to you all at fieldbase. Also in tears reading the last blog. It seems to have been a journey for us at home too. Thank you for looking after the venturers so well and for the amazing blog which i've been attached to since day 1. I've enjoyed the comments from home almost as much - like having a whole new group of friends in cyber space! Really can't wait for my girl to come home. I know she's had a fabulous time and gained a taste for adventure. Sadly the remaining months of her gap year may be pale by comparison. Good luck to you all in your future projects.

Hey, Tom, pity you left your ball gown and glass slippers at home, what will you wear for the black tie dinner?

But seriously... as you are reflecting with the Original 09A Alpha Eight, we hope you will have a sense of great achievement and satisfaction in all that you have done as individuals to ensure the enormous success of the whole expedition. For you, Tom, and for many others, there is the additional satisfaction of knowing that you planned and funded the whole thing using your own time, energy and very hard work. We are tremendously proud of you.

To all you Venturers: enjoy your last few days together, and congratulations to all of you for what you have achieved: every shovelful of cement or path you laid, every brick and plank you carried, every step of your treks, every weary person you supported, every scary moment you faced down; we hope your memories of companionship, muddy days and awesome sunsets shared, Disney songs at dawn, nights beneath the stars and the welcome of your host country families and communities will give you pleasure and satisfaction throughout your lives.

To all the PMs and support team: what can we say? Your generosity is amazing; we hope that the personal journeys you have witnessed and supported give you great satisfaction. You have been an inspiration to our young people, and a great comfort to their far-flung families.

Thank you all for sharing the expedition with us via your entertaining and uplifting blog. It has been a privilege to watch you all from afar.

Enjoy your festivities; may all the tears be of friendship and pride in what you have shared; may your onward journeys be safe and your homecomings happy.

We have learned this from you all over the last 3 months - seize the day - pura vida!

I have been in tears reading your letter... and now reading through these blogs. We are so incredibly proud of you! In a very selfish way, I want you back!!! because I miss you my skin and blister and I just can not wait to hear all the goss. Thank you so so much for calling earlier. It turned a dull grey day in mayfair into a happy day... you made me smile (and, trust me, there's not much of THAT going on in London nowadays)

Love you more than you will ever know. Your not so little and very annoying baby sister. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hi Livvy Knight, Mum here. We got you wonderful letter yesterday. It was so so nice to receive it and to hear just how much you have gained from this marvellous expedition. So you're safely back at camp now. Can you give us a ring before you set off again? We'd like a clearer idea of what you are doing next. Adam's Mum phoned and I've given her the details of your flight from Panama to Lima. Hope you are well and not too exhausted. There will be lots of tearful goodbyes, no doubt. Looking forward to haring from you. Love Mum XXXXXX

Hi Olivia A. Sorry to have missed your message tonight. Ed filled me in - kind of! So pleased the last phase was awesome. Your time in CR seems to have got better and better - perhaps you are suited to the outdoor life afterall and prefer it to the short walk between bar and hotel room you promised yourself! We can't wait to see you on saturday. we are brimming with pride in how you have coped with everything over the last 10 weeks. Marrakesh was a lovely break - spooky went to v. smart new hotel. He's got alot to say but think he's saving up most of his news for you! Enjoy the next few days of partying and emotional farewells. lol mum, dad and ed xxxxxxxxxx

Calum, sorry we got cut off mid call. So good to hear from you. Was going to ask if you are going white water rafting on the mighty Pacuare river? I bet you are and probably best that i don't know until you've done it! BTW Happy Easter, I'l keep your chocolate eggs hidden from Rory (and try to resist them myself). Remember your Scottish hertiage and keep applying the sun screen during your last few days. Have a good time on the beach, we'll be thinking of you. More love and hugs, Mum xxx
