Trekkers taking a well-deserved break at the beach

By the time most of you are up tomorrow morning, all three trek groups will have finished their treks and will be chilling out on some of Costa Rica's most stunning beaches!
Alpha one have reached La Leona after a tough beach walk today, and by way of celebration, and I quote, are "going to bed late and getting up late!" They sounded very happy about that, they were up at 3.30am this morning, I know because I spoke to them when they called in at 4.15am!
Where the rainforest meets the beach in Corcovado National Park

Alpha two have arrived at Playa Hermosa, where they received a warm welcome from the rangers. They're looking forward to their final food drop tomorrow, when Szeman and I will deliver all manner of BBQ type food, including burgers, sausages, buns, and most imprtantly burger cheese and ketchup!
Sunrise at Hermosa...

Alpha three, by the time you read this in the morning, will have made it to Playa El Rey, a little further down from Alpha six. The beach, famous for its nesting turtles isn't open to the public so they'll have the whole beach to themselves (well bar Alpha six, but they're at the other end of the 15km beach). Szeman and I are also dropping BBQ goodies off to them tomorrow afternoon, as well as several hammocks, so I expect they'll be mostly swinging from the palm trees for the next few days - bliss!

Sunset at Playa El Rey...

All three groups sounded absolutely elated to have completed their treks. Between them they have covered over 11,000 kilometres and climbed double the height of everest. They have braved torrential rain and blistering sunshine, crossed rivers and camped in remote wilderness and jungle. It will have made most of them want to cry at several points, but I'm sure each and every one of them will tell you when they get back that the four am starts, tough climbs and up to 10 hours trekking a day with over 20kg on their backs pales into comparison with the incredible views, abundant wildlife and the huge sense of achievement to have finally finished! Well done trekkers!

Szeman and I are off on the food drop early tomorrow morning, but we'll be back on Monday with more pics and news of all the exciting things we've got planned for when everyone gets back to Fieldbase on Tuesday.

hi Dominique in alpha 2 !
So you guys and gals made it to the end of the trek to Playa Hermosa and what a rewarding place to be.Well done macho's!!!!!!I wish I could be on the beach like you are,the pics on the blog are like a fairytale.
Dominique,I send Pedro in the U.K. some details for collecting the money at Coopemex in Turrialba. He will send these to the fieldbase so you will get them there.
I understand that you are returning to the base on tuesday.Must be a great moment to see everyone for the last time and share all the experiences.
Can you make contact by email or phone (collect call )before you leave Turrialba heading to a beachresort ?
We did not go to Sunshine today,it's the first warm day up there (0 C )and it will be busy because the sun is shining so snow will be slush.Guess we are spoiled,w'll go with Easter.
I did Ghislaine's hair,I gave her highlights and it does look nice and is well done for a first time .
Still no jobs at Whistler for summerseason but it looks like you are going to have a sin-number soon !!!!!! I am not joking.it's true.
Tell fieldbasecrew that they did a great job taking care of you all and keeping us back home informed with all the venturers.
Love from Calgary,xoxoxomama

Well done Pooch and Alpha 1 (Alphas 2 and 3 also)you all did it; now you can all party as hard as you trekked!

There may have been a slight change of plan for the 15th Pooch, courtesy of the eejit who jumped a red light yesterday and ploughed into Ste's car! Jumped a red light with his 2 children in the car; what a hero eh? Don't worry, Ste wasn't injured at all (a lil shook up but putting on convincing macho fascade); Polly Punto wasn't quite so lucky, although most of the damage appears to be cosmetic. I doubt Polly will be back on the road in time to collect you, so will have to resort to a grumpy plan b, aka Grandad or Uncle Martin? I will keep you posted Pooch.

Enjoy all the fieldbase antics this week, and I've still got everything crossed for the arrival of the parcel x x x x

To Trekker William Zhao Alpha Two

Congratulations, darling Huhu, for finishing the toughest trekking journey! Well done, all your group. I believe that you conquered yourself many times and you are amazed to find out how much you can achieve. Your experience there was probably beyond many people's wildest dream. You did it! Imagine what you could not achieve from now on?! I mean as long as you apply the same amount of effort. Your phone call made my whole life so much brighter since I heard you saying I love you! Bless you, my baobao, I know you are a wonderful son. Cannot wait to see you at airport this Saturday, and all of us will go to airport. Hugo would not miss the day for anything. Can you imagine that Gervase would let you come back home without going to airport to collect you?! So does Hugo! He is here to love us all. Today is the first day with the marvellous English nanny. Hugo cried all the way back home from Royal Hospital ground since he does not like to be put back to his pram. What a trial for the nanny. Big hugs and so much love, Mum xxxxxxx

Hi Bartje Ruigrok, whaaaaaH! Joos is onze cityguide. Nou, dude, lekker nog even genieten daar. Doe alles wat je niet laten kunt daar en see you soon! Dikke vette kus van ons allemaal, je vadertje, moedertje, en zusjes.

Hi Jungle-Girl, Welcome back to the world.
What a wonderfull time you must have had. You are a supergirl, but I am sure you agree when I say that you were together with a superteam.
Glad you are back, but also sad for you, since this means Raleigh is almost finished. Being this very grateful mum, I want to express my thanks to the staff, who made the past three month's an unforgettable experience for everybody, even for the blog-readers back home.
To you my supergirl, I want to say, you did it and I am sure these past few months will be a memory to last you a life-time. Big hug, en dikke zoen, en kan niet wachten tot ik je stem weer hoor. Love mam en een kale Guus.
