Update on the Nicaraguan Weather Situation

As some of you may know, Nicaragua is experiencing very heavy rainfall. The main highways remain open but the communities where we will be working cannot currently guarantee access in and out until the rain dissipates. It is the rainy season in Central America right now, where we have many years experience operating in difficult weather - however, we haven't had rain this heavy for a number of years. With that in mind we have taken the decision to delay the deployment of our groups to Nicaragua. Alpha 5 (Achuapa) and Alpha 6 (Miraflor) will remain at Fieldbase tomorrow and we will continually assess the situation. We are hoping that they will be able to leave on Sunday, arriving at their project sites on either Monday or Tuesday - according to local advice and international weather services, the weather should improve by then. If it does not improve to a level we feel we can safely manage, we will find alternative projects for the groups in Costa Rica... however, we do not anticipate this happening. Alphas 1 to 4 (Costa Rica groups) will deploy tomorrow as planned - there is heavy rain here, but nothing out of the ordinary for this time of year.

Check back for another weather update tomorrow (Saturday). Until then...

Good to see you in the group photo. Sounds like the jungle camping was good experience for the weather you're having - hope you managed to stay dry and your project isn't delayed too long. Seems a little ironic that a gravity water project is held up by too much water coming down by gravity! Looks great out there when the sun shines so I hope you have fun when it does! Good luck with the project when you get going, take care of yourself and the group and enjoy living the tropical lifestyle. Loads of love to you from us all Dad xxxx
