13A's induction is over: now the hard work really begins!

Expedition 13A is now well under way - yesterday saw all of our teams deploy to their respective projects but not before a big day of packing and planning which all culminated in an amazing evening of inspirational talks from our Country Team of Julian, Pedro and Simon.

The evening ended with a wonderful slideshow of what our teams had done since arriving; an intensive period of learning and challenges for all but it is amazing what can be achieved with a lot of hard work and a go for it attitude from every member of expedition.

We thought you would love to see what everyone has been up to - so here is our Venturer Induction video, put together by our incredible and very talented photographer Liz:

Today is Day 1 of Phase 1 and Alpha's 1 to 10 will be beginning their projects across Costa Rica and Nicaragua - we will bring you lots more updates over the coming days and weeks from our Project Communications Officers, Venturers who have volunteered to be our bloggers on project. This will hopefully give you an idea about what it is like to be a Raleigh International Volunteer, the projects that are undertaken and how Raleigh ensures their sustainability, the themes we are discussing (for Phase 1 it is Social Justice leading upto UN World Social Justice Day on the 20th February) and furthermore the outcomes we hope to achieve.

    Ha lieve Nies, wat een geweldig leuke foto impressies. Ontzettend goeie sfeer zo te zien. Wat een enthousiaste mensen allemaal. We hebben jou en ook Willemijn, Fay en Emo duidelijk meerdere keren voorbij zien komen, dansend, lachend. Het bruist......! Inmiddels hebben jullie waarschijnlijk een paar pittige dagen erop zitten.....we zijn razend benieuwd hoe het nu met je gaat.     Lieve poukie! Hoe gaat het schat?? Hahah omg ik heb me zo doodgelachen om die foto's van jou in het filmpje dat op de blog staat. Ziet er echt mega schattig uit. Ik zag je lekker shinen met je zigzag haarbandje en stippenblouse. Herkende je meteen! Heb je het een beetje naar je zin daar? Ik las wat jou alpha groepje doet.. 4 uur sochtends opstaan, 10 uur lopen per dag en 250 km afleggen in 19 dagen.. pfoe klinkt als een hele opgave! Wel echt super knap van je baby! Ik hoop echt dat je het mega leuk hebt daar. Ik zit in een hele andere levenstijl dan jij op het moment haha, vandaag is de NIA-week begonnen (feestweek van de toko) dus ik leef even een heel stuk ongezonder dan jij haha. Maar wel heel leuk natuurlijk! En vrijdag ga ik lekker skiën. Ook super veel zin in. Als je een keer kunt, stuur me een smsje of bel me een keer want ik mis je, beste vriendinnetje van me!
    Hele hele dikke kus en veel liefs! Ik denk aan je! en allerbelangrijkst: HAVE FUN!!!

    he phil alles goed met je? heb helaas nog geen foto's van je gezien maar dat komt nog wel haha.
    ik hoorde van je moeder dat je nu bij indianen zit om een medisch centrumpje te bouwen, zeker wel zwaar werk in die hitte en condities waarin je verkeerd. jammer dat je niet kan reageren maar ik hoop dat het allemaal goed met je gaat en dat je een fantastische tijd hebt en zal hebben.
    die tocht zal wel zwaar worden, maar al die training die in Chili hebt gehad zal dat geen probleem worden voor je haha

    Chaaar liefje wat ziet het er allemaal leuk uit! Ik word er echt blij van om je te zien op alle foto's, ook zo leuk dat ik je even kon spreken op whatsapp! Als eerste activiteit gelijk op expeditie, pfff dapper! Maar ik weet zeker dat je het kunt! Ik zet hier fanatiek mijn eigen expedities naar Delft voort, gaat heel goed! Al vindt niet iedereen het zo'n succes.. Maar als jij daar kan doorzetten, kan ik het hier ook! Ik mis je wel gekkie, gewoon eventjes 2 minuten op de fiets en dan voor je deur staan.. Over 9 weken ga ik je echt platknuffelen! Succes daar meisje, ik ga deze blog blijven stalken en hopelijk alle fantastische dingen zien die je gaat doen! <333 Celien ps: mijn iPod zet All Time Low aan. Stella. Het is een teken.

    Lieve Char, wat een leuk filmpje op jullie blog. Kun je al goed kaartlezen en tenten opzetten? We dachten in de zomervakantie te gaan kamperen in Noord Lapland, dus dan heb je daar zieke skills voor. Fitch mist je enorm, en wij ook wel. De flow-levels zijn intussen uitgespeeld, dus we hebben het erg druk gehad. Q is in Groningen geweest, weinig geslapen. Met Oops gaat het weer iets beter, maar hij is nog erg moe. Lieve Charlotte: geniet van alle creepy crawlers in het bos. Kusjes van ons vieren en een krab van Fitch.

    Hi Saree,
    If you are mixing or laying concrete for the water feed, I know your Chemistry GCSE will have finally come in useful. I always knew it would. The properties of Calcium Carbonate......We have seen many pictures of you at the Induction stage and it looked really great and that you were having a fantastic time with lots of laughs in amongst the serious stuff. I hope the first phase is going smoothly. Look forward to hearing all about it.
    Dad has sorted all your tickets and we shall let you know about that but all is ok and confirmed.
    No news here really. It is very cold and grey, sleeting and raining generally although the sun appeared briefly this morning. Dad and I are hoping to go and see the Hobbit this weekend. By the way Othello is being performed at the National this summer!! We could have done with that this time last year. I am just about to book my flights to Philadelphia for October so am pretty excited. I am going to go and buy some airmail paper this afternoon to write to you as you cleaned me out! So what is new about that.

    Ha lieve Japie, hoop dat het vorige bericht nog onderweg is, daarom toch nog even een poging. Volg jou en Alpha 3 en zie veel vrolijke gezichten. We waren heel blij met je bericht via Anouk. Nog steeds blij of is het echt een hele zware tocht? Hier staat het hele bovenhuis op zijn kop: de schilders. Carnaval begint. Pappa en ik ontvluchten het. We gaan er even tussenuit. Jeg nød at se jeres induction video, den gav et godt indtryk af jeres gruppe og dynamikken - og god dansestil!! Jeg håber det er et fedt community project du er på og at du nyder arbejdet, husk at spise dine sorte bønner, jeg synes du så lidt tynd ud på videoen, he-he ;-)) tillykke med Farnham, jeg skal nok sende dem diplomerne igen. Du har også fået et conditional offer fra Bournemouth, jeg har allerede sendt dem dine diplomer, som de åbenbart ikke havde fået. Så det ender nok med 2 unconditional offers. så det er fedt for dig, tillykke med det! Jeg har også sendt dig en mail, men tænkte at du måske ikke ser den foreløbig.     Lieve Emo, we hebben iedere dag uitgekeken naar berichten van alpha 4 maar niets gezien. ik begrijp nog niet goed hoe dit allemaal werkt, dus ik probeer maar wat. hebben 1000000 vragen: hoe gaat het in krokodillen park? hebben jullie het gezellig? is het allemaal hard werken? zijn er ligbaden in de jungle? is er om de hoek een McDonald's? we zijn erg benieuwd naar fotos of videobeelden om ons een beetje voor te kunnen stellen hoe het er allemaal aan toe gaat. In Nederland alles prima. missen je natuurlijk heel erg. Annie is nu gezellig thuis. mama heeft haar uit utrecht opgehaald omdat ze griep heeft. Ze wordt hier nu plaats vervangend vertroeteld. friso is met jaarclub skiën en komt dit weekend weer terug. hopen snel iets van je te horen. heel veel liefs van ons allemaal, papa en annie

    hey chazza b its yo twin, duno if you will get this cos im a bit confused about this whole blog thing but hope da trek is goin down a treat,fyl have fun with that. cute photos with the children !!! lookin brown as a berry..im really white and pasty atm. dada read me ur letter on the phone was so long but i did enjoy it!
    found out my exam results, passed all (got 41, 61 and 70 percent in one (70 percent can u believe it!!!!!) umm what else is happenin, got an arabic assessment on monday joy to the world. went down to oxford yesterday to watch a friend dj, 15 of us stayed at his house was so lush was amazinnnn. oh celis comin up for that festival in manch in june haha gona be so funny l.m.f.a.o. anyway over n out. loads of love missin choo xxx

    Bebe hoy hablar contigo fue muy bonito jajaja... Voy a tratar de enviarle una carta por correo pero por aquello y que no te pongas a llorar te escribo acá... Yupo te extraña no ha tenido a quién orinar... y a Andrés se le escapan sonrisas nerviosas cuando le pregunto por ti... que dicha que está feliz ahí .eso me alegra mucho por ti pero igual recuerda que todo se trata de mí...así que vuelve para ayudarme con cosas... Chungo no ha aprobado H&H... y hoy hasta mi hermano te mencionó ( aunque fue para decir que te pareces a un jugador).. Bueno mejor no haga mucha amistad con los British poque ud sabe que después no te tienes campo pa tanta te gente... chao
