Delta 2 are the survivors of this year’s Raleigh groups. Superhuman strength, outrageously good chat and bucket loads of smiles have characterised this team and every member has pulled more than their weight only one week in. Like ants by night their activities are largely unknown, and it has proved difficult to glean anything about the disapproving of many farmyard animals from the project site. However with the frame of the school built spirits are high among these Raleigh matadors listed below:
The original ant, Charlie has stunned the group with her wood carrying ability. From playing a great game of football to translating every uttered word. That laugh is one of a kind.
The rock around which the team is built, Freya has done everything in her means to nurture and protect Delta 2 from lifeguard, to doctor, to wood carrying trooper, to radio dj and soiled tissue cremator (she secretly enjoyed it). P.s. Freya would like her family back home to know she is still alive.
An enigma from day one, Julia manifests herself in many forms. From friendly mother figure to card shark J-Dog, no one has managed to put their finger on what makes this women tick....but its definitely not carrying wood. A demon with the hammer, Julia tries her hand at everything and never fails to impress.
P.s. Joanna and Lucy you will be proud
Her safe exterior fails to disguise the animal within. Amy amazed the group by wrestling mountain cats within the first week. with hugs and that gleaming smile, she has provided encouragement and much needed love for all those who are homesick.
A man of many questions, a man of many songs, Christian never fails to amuse the group. Like a suduko in the Times, Christian puzzles us all but keeps our minds agile. His English is fantastic, his coconuts were delicious and he can whistle in four ways!
Denis has single handedly, and we mean single handedly, carried wood across treacherous terrain. This carrying has only improved his already incredible physique. By night, Denis dreams of TGIs, and by day he combs his hair. He’s a pro, not only on the building site but on the football pitch as well.
Like a Casio watch, Eliza is waterproof, mudproof, shockproof and a light in this dark gloomy village. A fan of squatting in all contexts and eating her beloved bananas whenever possible, Eliza is consistently level headed and has risen to the every muddy challenge with gusto and glamour. NB. She is very tanned and has a new nickname, ‘The lizard.’
We think Jess is too nice to be true, in fact its frankly ridiculous that she is this nice. A friend to all, a foe to none. Jess plays a vital role on the building site and motivated us all through the sawdusty mist of wood carrying as our day leader. A loyal wood carrying partner to Freya and a keen yoga enthusiast, Jess, fuelled by Costa Rican coffee, keeps us all going.
?Que? Mariel has taken the team by storm from day one. From meditating on the river bank, singing on the building site and dancing when the sun goes down, Mariel is the life and soul of the party. Oddly enough she is still convinced that everyone speaks Spanish, despite this, we would trust this women with our houses and our lives.
Taking time out from his day job as a lumberjack to come on this expedition, Patrick has left us awestruck with his sheer brute strength. A powerhouse on the football pitch, unfathomable at cards and consistent snorer, Patirck is Delta 2’s gentle giant.
Rosie is our little mermaid, often found perched on a rock in the stream scrubbing Alex’s clothes like there is no tomorrow. Always willing to help, Rosie has been a saviour to many members of Delta 2. However underneath the soft exterior lies braveheart. Rosie is strong as an ox and as sweet as a fruit polo, she is truly inspirational.
Melodic, happy and lovely, Rachel keeps us all amused and our spirits high by serenading us in times of stress. She is kindly capturing every special moment on that camera thing of hers and has become a teacher, role model and guru to many a local child. She adds style and colour to the worksite with her pinky pinky bandana and her Jackie O sunglasses.
Terry has discovered new strengths since arriving in cuckey: the art of sawing, the intuition in mafia and the most inappropriate wardrobe ever. He is a hit with the locals and has been invited back for Christmas courtesy of Jorge. A true Raleigh warrior with an unceasing laugh.
Alex: unbelievably tall, unbelievably sweaty, unbelievably disorganised and unbelievably hard working. The girls want to be with him and the boys want to be him, but Alex is only here to build a school. He is lively and funny whatever the weather.
Hannah: unbelievably funny, unbelievably poor at spelling, an unbelievable quiz master and a friend to kittens and team mates a like. Hannah enjoys eating eggs, running up the hill and describing her toilet experiences in graphic detail. Quite simply Hannah has single-handedly kept spirits high with her bone dry sense of humour. She also has blue nail varnish! P.S. Hannah misses her family and friends.
Update from DEL Oli:-
Delta 2 were in fantastic form when we saw them 24 hours ago. They have been working super-hard, carrying all the wood for the school up to the site, and are currently finishing the roof of the school before progressing to the floorboards.
