X-treme 6 update

We spent Saturday on a little day trip to Radio Miraflor, taking packed lunches made by our mums, and on Sunday we played cards outside the pulperia (the local shop) and brainstormed ideas for the design of the community centre mural that we will be painting once the building is finished. The group are all settling in to their new homes and getting on well with their Nicaraguan families. Unfortunately, Dudley and Drew are staying in a house with only half a roof! On the other hand, Chas, Veet and Erik have a whole house to themselves, with 4 beds and a hammock. Joe and Dennis were spoiled with hot showers whilst Ines and Lourdes played hand puppet games after dinner with candles- an interesting and effective way to bond with their family. Becca woke up in the morning to find that a small child had vomited in her flip-flops, which Zoe cleaned up. Katie and Rachel learnt how to make tortillas, grinding the corn into a paste and then flattening it out. There were many laughs from their family but they were still edible. Zoe experienced her first shower with 3 walls, the open side facing the baseball pitch- luckily there wasn’t a match on. Paula and Luck saw the slaughtering of a pig which eventually got sold around the village; most venturers had pork that night. During the art and design session, Princess Tara disappeared to do the radio. She finally came back covered in mud having chased Raleigh the dog out of the chicken pen. Veet managed to get in a game of baseball before work officially started on the community centre. We can honestly say that we have never experienced so many different ways of eating rice and beans, three times a day, 7 days a week!
