A week has flown by on our Alpha 7 epic adventure. Despite the extreme heat, we have found a water source, dug awesome trenches and found exciting wildlife (iguanas and teripins) though we are not quite keeping up with our Nicaraguan friends as they manage to complete at least double our workload! We have enjoyed various games of charades with our families as we ask for essential items such as a bucket for the water hole as well as signaling smaller portions as we tuck into our third helping of rice and beans. Don´t worry, its not all hard work and no play as we teach our families cards in turn for tortilla cooking lessons. Perhaps the most memorable moment has to be Hugh´s enthusiastic piñata hitting, made all the more difficult (and funny), by the absence of a piñata during our welcome party!

You just cant't beat a mattock when it comes to digging in the dry, Achuapan dirt!

ReplyDeleteHey my darling!! You can't believe how delighted we were to read the blog by you and Isobel...a huge smile of relief spread across our faces to learn that you seem to coping well with the challenges you are facing...Hooray!! To be honest when we read that you were heading off to dig for a water supply in a remote area 'off the beaten track'coming across a 'poisonous spider' and intense heat and 'dehydration' being the order of the day..we felt this sinking sick- churning stomach sensation..certainly not your dad's idea of an adventure!!We were hoping fervently that you wouldn't have any severe allergic reaction to the heat (remember Cuba?)but we needn't have worried...reading the blog totally reassured us..your up-beat nature has asserted itself..that's our girl!! Staying in the local community must be fascinating.. .do hope you are keeping a journal and taking lots of photos!! is the Spanish phrasebook coming in handy at all?Sounds like you guys have fun in the evenings..honing those card skills?Still un-defeated at charades lol? And the digging..should I ask? Me thinks I spied a photo of you in action but unsure as it a back view..don't think you will have any problems trekking after all this hard work.!!Anyway got to go ..Norway was awesome but more on that on our next posting!! Also Mikael has been following the blog with interest and has a sneaky admiration for his little sister..he is soo enjoying uni lıfe!!Miss you..miss hearing your voice, the craic, your innate sense of fun and most of all your beautiful smile..Take care..Lots of love.Mum and Dad Xxxxx.... BTW our last message to u was posted 12th Feb under 'update from Alpha groups'.hope you have better luck in getting the postings..I find it sometimes difficult to find them.(guess..me and technology are not going to get along)...so hope this finds you ..

Again, what you are doing sounds amazing and I have much admiration for you- cannot wait to read all the coming blogs and posts, I have given this link to Nadia as well so she can have a look. Also I saw your mum's message above about you having trouble getting the postings, so I hope you are getting mine and that you don't feel unloved!!! Got rejected from Edinburgh today which was a massive blow, but I'm trying to keep positive and telling myself it just wasn't meant to be. Plus think of how cold I would have been, you know what I'm like! I hope you're doing well anyway, it sounds like such an awesome experience, I'm so proud of you!!! Do it do it!
