It’s not long now before our venturers arrive here in Costa Rica. If you’re a venturer, we (the volunteer managers), are really excited about your arrival. We’re still busy, busy getting everything ready for you - taking food deliveries, cleaning and stocktaking equipment, and visiting project sites.
We also have another group of people who are totally psyched about next week. They are our host country venturers (HCVs) who live in Costa Rica and Nicaragua, and are sure to become your friends.
Here’s our host country co-ordinator Keiner (the one in the green Raleigh t-shirt) to introduce them to you, complete with a Spanish translation underneath so you can get practising:
From Keiner:
Last Saturday our ‘Tico’ (slang term for someone from Costa Rica, ‘Nica’ is someone from Nicaragua) HCVs had their preparation weekend for the 11C expedition. They arrived early and with high energy levels, ready for a day full of games, talks and songs, ready to start the expedition on the right note.
They learnt some Raleigh basics: packing techniques, Raleigh rules, cultural awareness, and also had all their questions answered.
All the ticos are looking forward to the beginning of this great adventure: counting the hours, preparing their Spanish and salsa lessons, and very happy to receive all the venturers in their country.
We leave you with our (unofficial) 11C song (ask K to translate when you get here!)
Lyrics:
Conoche como vienen los de la 11C
Conoche como vienen los de la 11C
Los de la 11C son todos Pura Vida
Los de la 11C son todos Pura Vida!
