Within the reserve there are a number of communities living through subsistence farming and gaining income from coffee growing, cattle farming and some small tourism initiatives. The people have few resources and lack access to basic services such as health and education. In the community of San Ramon, there are currently no facilities for very young children to learn and the community perseveres with basic lessons in people’s houses and so the team on this project will be building a multi-purpose community building where lessons can be held.
What a great start to your trip, you guys! We're looking forward to watching your progress and hearing your news via the blog. Lovely to see the sunshine in your first group photo - it's snowing here in Northumberland. Somebody please point Tom at a camera so we know that he eventually arrived... How did he miss the group pic? Or is it better not to know?
ReplyDeleteWe all wish you a fabulous time together on your first project.
Love you, Tom - it's very quiet here.Josie misses you lots - she's sleeping in one of your jumpers.
My treat on Friday was fab, thank you so much for booking it for me.
Mum and co xxx
It is going to be so much more involving to have the blog etc compared with 6 years ago when Will went to Chile with Raleigh - no communication from him for weeks! Have a great time and lets have as much news as possible. Northumberland eh? Holly and Tom had probably spotted a common home county before they departed.
ReplyDeleteHolly, I am waiting to hear back from Nottingham after putting in your application but it can take till April. Lots of love from us allx
Hi Sarah
ReplyDeleteYou look like a lovely cheerful group. Have a wonderful time. Hope the Nicas children get a great community centre. I will send a couple of our schools materials in case they would like to learn about packaging. Don't feel obliged to use it if you don't think it would be useful.
Best of luck to all of you. Love Mum and Dad x
Hey Haggle (Harriet).
ReplyDeleteHope you had a whimsical bus journey you big rat. Have an incredible time on the building site when not tanning. Tell me how it goes.

Lily,
ReplyDeleteSo wonderful that you are there safe and sound, and that we can keep in touch with this blog. Too bad you missed all the snow here today - Dom was wanting his sister to go sledging with him. Took Floss out for a walk yesterday evening - up by the castle - and she had a spectacular time, although she did arrive home covered in little icicles. All the schools are shut, and most of the town too - even the banks. Have a great stay in Nicaragua. We miss you terribly. xxx Mum and Dad

Hey, Tom, looking forward to seeing pics of the Alpha Eight palace in San Ramon. Having a lazy Friday morning here: I've been for a very muddy run, Dad's got nets in the garden and Josie is still comatose zzzzzzzzzz. Hope to do a Silverlink trip later - bookshop, cinema, poss munchies... Josie is adjusting to Only Child status now and is nervous but excited about the play.
ReplyDeleteWe're enjoying seeing all he fan mail you're getting! I've written a few times, and even Dad has put pen to paper! I expect all the letters will arrive at once when you get back to Fieldbase.
Grandma and Grandpa send lots of love and hoped you would have a very happy birthday. Lovely Grandma was worried I'd be sad without you, but I'm being brave and taking plenty of medicine...
No progress on new car: still getting repairs to old car, but have managed to avoid any more Close Encounters of the Taxi kind.
Must go and shower - I look like I've been on a muddy building site. Possibly a sight you are pretty familiar with by now!
Safe journey back to CR.
Love and hugs from all of us, M,D and J xxxx

I'm slowly getting the fear as medical finals fast approach. So, to stunt this I'm off to Spain on Friday for a weekend of fun, food and frolics.
Currently eating breakfast; Dad just walked into the kitchen and did a massive fart (the silent but deadly kind)!
Back up in London next week before my final rotation of med school up in Tunbridge Wells doing Surgery. Hence, no more parties in your bedroom.
Can I come join you? It sounds far more interesting that my life at the moment.
