Alpha Seven - Achuapa

Project Managers Katie and Mike and Medic Natalie will be leading Alpha 7. They’ll be working high in the hills above Achuapa, in one of the poorest most remote areas of Nicaragua, to bring clean and safe drinking water to families in the community of Los Playones.

This project is a multi-stakeholder partnership with the local community, the Cooperativa Juan Francisco Paz Silva, Nottingdale International and Raleigh. At present the local people get their water from the river which often dries up in summer or comes from polluted water sources. The group will be living directly with families in the village and working with the local community to dam small streams and build tanks to collect the water from where it can run through pipes to all the local houses.

    Hi Debz - even I can use this system! - It'll be great to keep track of where you are and you won't have to worry about keeping us updated. High in the Hills - maybe you'll be out of the mozzi zone - not so sure about spiders tho. We're all fine. London had 12 inches of snow last night. We only had 4. Haven't been able to visit your igloo - I expect it's buried now. Be happy. Love Mum and Dad

    Hi Debz - this is wonderful - even I can use it! It'll be easy to follow your progress and you won't have to worry about keeping in touch. High in the Hills - does that mean you are out of the mozzi zone?
    Ben had a foot of snow in London last night. We also had some. I didn't manage to get up to your igloo - it'll be buried now I think.
    Have a fantastic time - I think I can feel a blister coming on.

    Hi Charlotte,

    Los Playones sounds like an amazing place - really pleased you got to Nicaragua and that you get a chance to practise your Spanish. We're deep in snow here - more snow than we've had for 18 years so Miranda and I spent lots of time toboganning on Primrose hill yesterday - only bad news was that they cancelled Audrey's operation so now she'll have to wait a few moe weeks for another slot.     Hello there, member of Alpha four! definitely the best group...because you're in it!
    golly, you must be having such an uber-fabberoony time i cannot believe it! and even if not, (which i doubt hugely) am most jealous of your ability to wear shorts and t-shirts. I'm currently in the library with my scarf and coat on and am feeling v.v.cold! and hungry. my stomach is rumbling v loudly and people are looking at it. i'm missing you incredibly much, it's unreal! i keep wanting to ring you and have a right old natter but can't, and then it's sad...but you're having a fabo time, so i can't be sad, really can i??
