Zulu 3 are having an amazing time at Cabo Blanco and we are already making great progress with the trail. In the past seven days we have covered over two and a half kilometres on the trail, fixing damaged steps and creating new ones to make the trail more accessible. There has been a great deal of deadfall on the trail and it has taken a long time to clear. This phase has been a great opportunity for the Day Leaders who have had to use their initiative each day on what work needs doing.
We have now found out that our local visitor, “the badger monkey”, – who has been spending lots of time with us at the camp – is actually a coati. We have seen wildlife every single day whether we have been at the camp or whilst working on the trail. We feel very privileged to be here. We are often awoken at night to the sound of the howler monkeys beating around our patch.
Today is Simon’s birthday so we are planning a tribal themed birthday party for him. Speaking of birthdays, last night, Chico (the head ranger) invited us to a meal at the ranger station as it was his birthday – we were all in chicken heaven! Before dinner he gave us a history lesson on the Cabo Blanco nature reserve. The reserve has over 1600 different species – some of which cannot be seen anywhere else in the world. Cabo Blanco is a truly stunning place that we know we will always have in our hearts.

ReplyDeleteHi
It was great to get an update on the blog, seems like ages since we heard from you. Capo Blanco sounds like a very special place, it mus be strange being waken by the monkeys. Hope you are getting a bit of time to relax after your tiring trek.
Can you believe it Blues won again at the weekend, 3-2 away to Wigan, we are now 9th in the table. They play so much better when you are not here.
Things are busy here getting ready for Christmas, nearly finished shopping and off to get the tree at weekend. I'm looking forward to filling the fridge then for your return.
The last 8 weeks have passed really quickly and it won't be long until you are back causing your usual chaos in the house.
Everyone sends their love.
Lots of love and hugs
Mum xx
hey e,
ReplyDeleteso listen, about this whole not talking thing, it kind of sucks. i think maybe you should come home soon? in like... i dont know... 11 days? :)
things here are good, studying hard for finals, lots and lots of work, and once again my life is not nearly as exciting as yours! NQR is this weekend though, so that will be good, and i'm almost done with first semester, which i cannot believe. also, my mom told me we're going to connecticut for a few days over break, so on the way back i will be getting you some good old-fashioned rein's deli pickles!! and potato latkes, because i know how much you love potatoes.
it's finally starting to get cold and there is snow on the ground, so you'd better get over here before it all melts, we need to play in it and have a snowball fight!
i hope/bet you're still having a great time, and getting way more in shape than i will ever be. tell your friends hi from me, or cheers :) and keep taking mental pictures of all the gorgeous and amazing things i'm sure you will not describe because you're too busy looking at the scary poisonous snakes and poking them.
i saw Up tonight, and i thought of you. i miss you lots, and am so excited to see you
love,
anna

ReplyDeleteHai lieve Tan,
Cartney wow he.
Dag sjat dikke kus Maud.
