Beyond our first food drop at the comfortable Barbilla National Park Ranger Station lay the jungle. We got ready late as the guide arrived with an impatient expression on his face! The group then bravely trekked through kilometres of steep hills, strong rivers and mud so thick it swallowed our shoes. Imagine that for 3 days straight complete with soaking rain and a guide whose concept of time and distance did not match with ours – his ‘30 minutes away’ became 4 hours. Through these trying times we bonded together in order to get through.
Fortunately we pressed on through the jugnle and managed to spend the next few days trekking along nice roads for a change, going past Field Base along the way. The cosiness was not to last however and thus we began an 800m climb for the whole day culminating in camping in the rain under an electricity pylon! Not exactly the norm for us. By the time this blog gets to you all we will have climbed another 800m and have reached the highest point of our trek at 2800 metres!
The trek has been very tough - there has been blood, sweat and tears but we are all stronger for it.
Hope you enjoyed your update – see you soon.
Dani!!! (zulu 2) Hola dani!!!

ReplyDeleteZulu 2.
Mum says that Michael McKintyre has a sketch about Zulu, tango, and alpha. But we can't remember what the sketch is about - but you may know! Well done with the trek; it's a massive achievement. We're very proud of you. Love you lots. Becky's in the long house now with all Ed's folks, including Rodders and Donna.
Can't wait to give you a big hug and Abi's looking forward to seeing you too.
Lots of love Mum and Dad and Abi.
