X-ray Five update by Nitin Rishi and Luke Sussams

X-ray Five has had a very busy week from sand sieving to basha bed building to steamy salsa dancing. We began our time in Camaronal with some camp craft - pimping our jungle home to include features such as retractable tarp, benches, chairs and a gym.

Work wise we started on a new turtle hatchery which will house the turtle eggs. This included digging 80cm deep and sieving the sand to remove any debris. All the group got stuck in and took to it like a turtle to water.

By moonlight, X-ray Five have been busy on turtle patrol. Each night four venturers have scoured the beach in search of turtle tracks leading them to their precious nest, and had the unique experience of rehousing the eggs away from the poachers.

However, it’s not all work, work, work with daily Spanish lessons from Costa Rican Adri, giant sand sculptures of turtles and smashing the Ross-a-trons five basha bed challenge. The group now awaits the safe delivery of pizza as their reward. The nightlife in Camaronal hasn’t dissapointed either. The group have enjoyed a movie night, salsa classes and rounded the week off with a Mexican-themed night for Bex’s birthday. X-ray Five got involved with tortilla making, preparing and cooking food and laughing at Bex trying to hit her pinata (a traditional birthday game where a brightly-decorated cardboard structure stuffed with sweets is suspended from a tree and attacked with a stick to release the treasure). We hope for more of the same next week and smashing the next Ross-a-tron challenge.
