Alpha & Delta round-up

All our Alpha and Delta groups are out on their project sites across Costa Rica and Nicaragua and are settling in, building their camps, settling into their new homes, getting used to trekking to a new destination each day and starting work on their projects.

More details on each of the projects will be posted on the blog over the coming days, but here's a quick round-up of what is happening across all our groups so far...

Alpha 1 the intrepid Maribios trekkers are on day five of their journey, heading towards Villa Nueva today. They have been trekking hard and enjoying the spectacular views of this beautiful part of Nicaragua.

Alpha 2 are crossing the continent from Coast to Coast. Our second trekking group are just coming out of the jungle section of their trek, there has been mud, mud and more mud but they are looking forward to a visit from Fieldbase this afternoon with their next food drop and high calorie bread and butter pudding!

Alpha 3 are deep in the jungle at La Cangreja and have set up their new jungle camp home and started work on the Raleigh trail to help visitors to this beautiful National Park get around. Alpha 3 were joined yesterday by Gary Kelly, the final Venturer to join expedition 10F&G - he's quickly settling into Raleigh life.

Alpha 4 are also in the jungle and have set up their jungle camp in Golfito, found time to visit their local waterfall and spot some of their new monkey neighbours. Work has started on their path building project and despite the large amounts of rain the group are in great spirits and continuing to make improvements to their new home.

Alpha 5 are up in Achuapa, Nicaragua. They have moved into their new homes and are getting to know their host families. They have been teaching English in the local school, enjoying local food and working hard to dig the trenches for the water system they are building.

Alpha 6 are up in the beautiful Miraflor Reserve in northern Nicaragua. They have also moved into their new homes and are settling into life as part of a Nicaraguan community. They are walking to visit a previous Raleigh project today.

Delta 1 have made it to Nimari, Tayni - an indigenous reserve in Costa Rica. They are working hard on their school and enjoying getting to know the local community. They too are off to visit a past Raleigh school project today.

Delta 2 have been busy carrying the wood for the foundations of their school down to their worksite. It has been pretty muddy and rainy in Jokbata, but the group have been getting to know their community and had a dinner party last night. They are digging the foundations of their school today, and doing some much needed washing of their muddy clothes!

Delta 3 are also in an indigenous reserve in Chirripo. They are in the community of Alto Pacuar and work is well underway building their school. They had a day off yesterday and enjoyed a trip to visit the beautiful Pacuare River.

Delta 4 have set up their jungle camp just back from the stunning beach at Playa Hermosa. Life on the beach is going well, they are working hard with nightly turtle patrols - it's the start of the season so they haven't seen many yet, but they are coming! They are also working with the rangers to plant trees behind the beach.

It's Radio Raleigh at 16:00 this afternoon and we'll be broadcasting to all our groups and giving them the world news and sport. Blog messages continue to be delivered to everyone when the Fieldbase Road Trips visit the projects so keep them coming in for your nearest and dearest.
